Self reflection

1. At this point in my project, I am learning so much. About why girls are the way they are, how you can help them, where low self esteem comes from and where it starts. Example , self esteem is taught in the home environment from parents or guardians . Depending on how you treat your child and show them how to have a high confidence level is how they will grow as a woman. I think it's P material right now, because there is a lot more I need to learn. 2. My independent component "song", I have had about 4 practices and have already been through mini abouts of " drama." . I told the girls that this is one team ,not a group ,a team of unity and that is what it needs to stay at. I've learned that unity in a team, squad, group helps ones self esteem . Being able to function in a group and have different personalities around you to support you is a great feeling. I hope to accomplish more during all my practices, raising girls self esteem. One exercise I am going to try is wearing a uniform and feeling confident. I told the girls once we get our uniforms, it will be a requirement for them to wear it every other Friday. The goal for that exercise is to see if wearing a uniform increases or decreases confidence levels. 3. I want to learn more about how parents can help girls with their self esteem, and what are things they can do to keep a high confidence level.

Science Fair Proposal

1. What is your hypothesis ?

If a teenage girl is athletic, then she will have a high self esteem.

2. Identify the Dependent , independent, and control variables in your hypothesis?

My dependent will be the the self esteem in all the girls, my independent will be if they are active or inactive, athletic or non athletic. .The control variables are the girl and their ages 14-18.

3. What is the connection between your science fair proposal And your senior project eq?

My senior project topic is self esteem in teenage girls . My science fair experiment will find out one possible answer to why girls have low self esteem.

4. How will you perform this experiment? Include the equipment you plan on using?

I have done research and found that a group of psychologists used the following survey to find if there is a relationship between a girl’s self esteem and how athletic she is:

I will interview 100 random teenage girls and have them fill out the same survey.  I will then analyze the results of this experiment using statistics to see if my results are significant.

5. Which category will your Project be listed under?
Behavior Science

What I've Learned So Far

1. During my research of this project, I have found out that almost every site has said parents are the main cause of their childs low self esteem. Not showing them enough affection or not showing them the right way. Not helping their child with learning how to love and respect themselves.

2. http://www.aboutourkids.org/articles/how_raise_girls_healthy_selfesteem
This site is good for mothers, soon to be mothers, or just plain teenage girls. Gives examples of why girls have low self esteem and how parents can help them.

3. http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/body_image/body_image.html
A site for teenage girls with low self esteem.

Independent Component 1 Plan Approval

1. "Self Esteem In Song" , is what my I.C 1 will be called. I want to start a Song (dance) Team. A song team is like a cheerleading team without the stunts. My plan is to get the underclass men to join together and learn about self esteem in dance. Meaning with physical activity, love, and performance it will build esteem.

2. My plan will require 1-3 hours a week all year. Practices and meetings will keep us very busy.

3. My essential question is " What is the best way To help teenage girls build self esteem". So therefore I will build their self esteem by physical activity and performance.

Presentation Reflection

1. My interview with Atiana Price , was a huge help with my first presentation. She gave me very specific and detailed answers. For example, I asked her what her opinion was on parents being responsible for their child's self esteem. She told me that it is most important for a parent to help with a growing girls self esteem because if you don't young girls are lost in the world. Meaning they don't know who they are and they don't know who to be. When they just need to be their selves.

2. Well I asked the class what they thought about girls being conceited and if that meant that they have low self esteem. Most of the class agreed, And it made sense why they did, my opinion was it could go either way. Girls can be full of themselves and truly love themselves or be full of themselves because they really don't love their self. It just depends on the girl.

3. Well I thought the time was going to be most challenging but turns out it was making sure the class understood what I was trying to teach. Mainly because I'm sure the guys weren't interested ,but I tried to keep themas involved in the questions as I could.

Blog 3 Senior Project Presentation

Lesson: My first interview with Atiana Price

Objective: Students will learn how to boost a teenage girls self esteem.

Procedure:
1) I will start my presentation by asking if anyone knows how to spot girls with low self esteem. And why they think the girl is that way?

2) I will then ask the students why they think girls have low self esteem? Followed by " what are ways to help girls boost their self esteem?"

3)Afterwards I will explain why girls should have good self esteem and why?

4)Then I will explain why girls need to love their self before they want to love someone else or some e love them.

5) I will have a board with charts of eating disorders dieting among teenage girls etc, showing the effects of low self esteem.

6) Then go on to say that it is a parents job to help girls understand that no one is perfect and to love their self.

Check for understanding : I will check for understanding by asking what they think is most important when building a teenage girls self esteem.

L.I.A

Literal: I have learned a lot from my interview. Such as that it's a parents job to help girls with their self esteem because if they rely on the media it will only get worse. If young girls turn to the media for advice they will Lear that they need to be perfect and sexy, rather than humble and beautiful.

Interpretive: I will show my board that will have charts with different types of things that happen when girls have low self esteem. Such as eating disorders, dieting, as well as anorexia.

Applied: I will make sure the students understand that this really is a big deal. reason being girls are the new future . Way more than before our time, girls need to be stronger and have more power.

Blog #1 Senior Project Topic

My senior project is Self Esteem in Teenage Girls. The topic never really caught my attention till I watched a presentation on it. It was different and something I would really love to learn more about. When reading articles about Self esteem in teenage girls , I came across an interesting piece of research. It said that parents have a lot to do with ones self esteem, and that really caught my eye.  So after studying this topic all year I would really like to accomplish knowing if that is really true or not. Is it really the parents job to build ones self esteem? Or does is depend on the person and their strength. Also I would really love to help others with their self esteem and maybe build more to mine. Therefore I would really like to accomplish learning what exactly is self esteem ?
